October definitely is one of my favorite months of the year. The leaves turn a warm color, it starts getting colder, the morning air is crisper and invigorating and it’s finally time to pile on the layers and acceptable to wear dressing gowns and warm socks.
If you read my October to-do list & what I’m excited for this season post, you’ll remember that I had a lot planned for this month. Well, I’ve managed to do most of it!
I had planned to catch up on blogposts and Youtube videos this month but I haven’t totally managed it unfortunately. I didn’t have much time for it and the comparison monster hit me hard so I watch some TV shows and movies instead. Three that I need to mention are:
- A Star is Born: incredible, cried at least four times, the singing is so good, the story is powerful and the acting is breathtakingly good.
- Breathe: I’d mean meaning to watch this movie with Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy ever since it came out (but then for some reason didn’t) and watch it last month and it’s a movie to watch. The story is powerful, the acting is amazing and because it’s from a true story, it’s all the more important to watch I think. A husband and wife who ended up changing the life of so many more people.
- Killing Eve: everyone was talking about it a few months ago and I didn’t manage to watch it but I did last week and it’s such a great TV show! Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are incredible in this and I’m really enjoying the plot. I can’t wait for season two!
I started early planning for my sister’s 18th birthday presents. I knew my parents and I wanted to do something quite special for it but because of some family situation, we knew we could do much in terms of activity. As we wanted to still make it special, I got the idea to get her a proper camera. If you follow her on her Instagram or her blog, you’ll know that she really has an eye for photography. Her photos always capture the essence of the moment and even though iPhones take great photos, we wanted her to have a good camera to get even better quality. Her reaction when she opened it – she cried – was totally worth it and she spent the day taking photos (breathtaking ones of course) so we’re pretty sure she’s happy about it.
October was also the month we started Christmas shopping – yep, we’re early birds. We are a very organized family and wanted to get a good head start since so much is already going on in our lives. We got some for my cousin and both my parents already and we are currently working on other bits and bobs for the rest of the family.
Last month was also a great one because I was able to catch up with two of my best friends. One is off to spend 6 months in Haiti for a new job and I was so happy to be able to get a full day with her before then. Though she had been doing her internship in Paris for the past 6 months, we’d been emailing at least once a week (or online therapy seasoning as we like to call it) and it felt so good to see her in the flesh. She’s one of the most amazing people I’ve met in the past year and I’m so happy for the new chapter of her life.
And how happy was I to see my best friend the week after! We caught up with her and her lovely boyfriend over Italian and then spend the afternoon just the two of us laughing, talking and snapping photos away. If you follow me on Instagram, a lot of my newest posts (and this post’s main photo) are from her and she really is amazing at photography. I don’t get to see her a lot (another Parisian…) but every time I see her I’m reminded of how amazing, funny and special she is.
One of my biggest “crossed-out of the to-do list for good” this month was definitely the highlight of the month of October… I got a job guys!
I applied and thought I wouldn’t get it because I was inexperienced contrary to most of the other applicants (all 50+ of them) but I really wanted it so I decided to just do my best and see what happens. Quite unexpectedly, I was asked to come for an interview along with four other applicants. So on Friday 26th, I went there and gave it my best and ended up learning soon that I got the job! I was – and still am – over the moon and still can’t quite process it. I’ll be starting next Monday and I’m thrilled. I’m so relieved to finally be able to plan a routine and though it means that I’ll have to organize myself well so I can still go to the gym and manage my blog and social media, I’m happy to be settling in a new life.
The past couple months were hard ones mentally and I’m glad they are over now. I’m ready to kick start November and I’m already so excited for Christmas (is it too soon?).
November, bring it on!
