The Books I Am Obsessed With

May 24, 2018

Hello, my name is Gaby and I am a total bookworm.

I read every single night before going to bed, even if it’s 2 a.m. I need to read even if it’s only two pages. I’m lucky in the sense that I like a lot of types of books but my favorite are thrillers/mystery for the daytime and fictions for the night-time.

For me a good night involves watching Youtube or Netflix and having a good long read. And a good summer day is spent on a sun lounger and reading for the entire afternoon. Reading is really a way for me to unwind and relax. I

n the past few years I’ve discovered so many amazing books that I’ve totally caught my attention and left me eager to go back to reading when I had to stop. I know that some people don’t really enjoy reading and that’s fine, but I think that the books I’m going to talk about could definitely turn a not-reader into a “I can’t wait to continue that book”. These definitely made time go by so fast and I always found myself a bit lost when I had to look up again.

The Last Letter from Your Lover by Jojo Moyes

I hadn’t read more than the back of the book before reading it and I have to admit I did not expect that. The story goes back and forth in time as Ellie learns about a love story that took place decades ago. We learn about how different life was a few decades ago and get to know the main character as her love life unfolds, and changes. Loved it.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Who hasn’t heard of this one? A woman disappears and immediately her husband is accused. Nick feels like he actually didn’t know his wife. A psychological thriller that kept me on edge the entire read. Brilliant writing, amazing story. Didn’t see anything coming.

My husband’s secret by Liane Moriarty

I have read every single book from Liane Moriarty because I absolutely love her. This one was one of my favorites (with Big Little Lies) books of hers. What I really like from her books is that we get to explore the point of view of different characters which is so interesting. I don’t want to spoil the story but it was thrilling until the end. Basically we discover a secret hidden for a long time and how the impact on many people involved.

Room by Emma Donoghue

If you have seen the movie you’ll know already how different it is. The book was like nothing I had ever read before. First of all, it’s told from the point of view of a child. A child which with is mother “ma” who has been kidnapped years before. The child has never been outside of “room” and his perception of the world is quite interesting and upsetting at the same time. I love the psychological aspect of the book and read it for hours on end because I was hooked. I’m not going to say more because I really don’t want to spoil such an amazing book but it was incredible.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

A dinner party. Parents going home to find their baby daughter has been kidnapped. A police search. Interrogation. Wonders. Mystery. Threats. Unexpectedness. Who’s took her? This was such a great read. Again, following the mind of both parents and the investigator was really interesting. There were a lot of unexpected developments in this story and I read it very quickly (even on New Year’s Eve).

Behind Closed Door by B.A. Paris

I’m quite a thriller book lover and this one didn’t disappoint me. From the first few pages the reader can tell something is wrong. The psychology behind this book is incredible and I was hooked from the start until the end. My heart was beating fast and I could not wait to continue reading it everytime I put it down. My mom just finished it and she adored it – it stressed her out too.

The Missing by C.L. Taylor

Clare’s son has been missing for months and she blame’s herself for it. As every member of the family does. Because each of them has been keeping secrets and as the truth begins to unfold, they will never be the same. We learn more about each character and their relationship to Billy and discover finally what happened many months ago. I just wasn’t expecting what happened.

Then she was gone by Lisa Jewell

Yes, another thriller. For some reason – probably because I am not a mom yet – I love thrillers about a missing child. Ellie has disappeared 10 years ago and her family still doesn’t know what happens to her. The story follows her mother and her life without her child, how she is trying to move on from it and her unexpected new encounter that’s going to change her life. And give her answers.

What book should I read next?

Terrific list! Love Gone Girl and Room. Should check out the others on the list, especially Lianne Moriarty because I thoroughly enjoyed Big Little Lies.

As for thrillers, how about some Patricia Highsmith?

    • Liane Mortiarty has quickly become one of my favorite authors. If you enjoyed Big little lies you are going to love her other books!
I have never heard of her, I will definitely be checking out her books, thank you!
