Lifestyle changes I’ve made in 2019 so far

February 25, 2019

We are nearly in March, it’s crazy how time flies. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty excited about Spring being around the corner. But I’ve also realized that in terms of lifestyle, I’ve already made so pretty big changes in my life.

New year felt like something switched inside of me. A fire for working hard towards what I want to achieve and to fight for what I believe in. Don’t ask me what happened, the “start of something new” with the new year, time to process things over the Christmas break, I don’t really know. But what I know is that it as generated big changes in my life.

My diet

It was a long time coming but I think I’ve become somewhat of a vegetarian. I don’t like to label my diet as I want to feel free to eat whatever I want, but I guess that’s the best way to describe it. Over the past few years, 2016 to be exact, it became more and more difficult for me to eat meat. It started with red meat that I would only have every once in a while, if my parents were cooking it for lunch at the weekend or my boyfriend was buying it for two portions. I didn’t really enjoy it, I would drown it in some sort of sauce or other food.

I realized that if I was cooking just for myself, it was pretty much always plant-based or vegetarian. Eggs, I still don’t have an issue with really, and if I have to eat meat at a restaurant (because there’s nothing else), it’ll be fish. But during the week, I eat pretty much vegetarian, even mostly plant-based actually. I feel so much better, enjoy my meals way more and have been so much more creative in the kitchen.

I’ve always been conscious of the environment. My parents have taught us to recycle from early on and to be careful of waste so it’s pretty natural to me to do so. My sister has found an amazing grocer’s shop that sells loose products without unnecessary packaging. She got me two round cloths to remove my makeup and I have to say it’s changed my life. I rarely use cotton pads now and just wash the cloths as I use them. It’s more efficient as removing my makeup and it helps to smooth out my skin at the same time. Winner.

Down time

Between my job, blogging and working out, I have a hard time switching off. Something I knew I wanted to do more of in 2019 is reading. I read every night before bed, but I find it harder to read during the day. When I take some time off, I usually watch some Youtube videos, a Netflix show or catch up on reading blogposts on Bloglovin. But I know how calming reading is to me. It’s something offline, in real life that I can do anywhere. I got a few books for Christmas that I really want to read. In the past 2 months, I’ve opted more and more for reading when I have some time before cooking dinner for example after coming home. Reading helps me to wind down more efficiently, I’ve noticed.

2019 definitely is the year for change, career-wise. The year of effort, hard work and determination. More than ever, I know what my passion are and what I want to do with my life. I think I’ve known this all along, which was scary throughout the years. But I also know what I don’t want to do as a job and that’s what’s pushing me to spend hours working on the side. It has been hard at times, to spend most of my weekends and time off working on top of my full time job, but it also makes me so happy. I feel content, like I’m doing what I’m meant to do in a way and that’s priceless.

Any changes for you lately?
