I love family holidays. You get to spend quality time while enjoying a new environment. No routine, no idea what the day will be like, what you will see, what you will discover, what you will eat or any clue of what you will experience.
Two years ago, for our Spring Holiday, my mom had decided that we all needed some time off. I was going to have my final exams for my two-year post-A level course in International Trade before entering the 2nd year of University, my mom was really stressed out about work and so was my dad, my boyfriend had exams coming up as well and my little sister… well I guess being thirteen is stressful.
We wanted to go somewhere where we could forget everything and just wander around, visit and enjoy a good weather. We looked up on the website of the company we usually book our holidays with, and they had a hotel-apartments destination in Barcelona, and we booked it almost immediately. We don’t live very far from Spain – South-East of France, so we drove there (6 and a half hours of us singing to whatever was on the radio and taking pictures). The apartment was great and we could easily go anywhere by any mean of transport -aside from the car we didn’t want to use until leaving.
It was amazing, dreamy to be able to forget and just wander, have fun without planning ahead, except for visits we knew would require queuing for hours otherwise, like the Sagrada Familia. We mostly travelled by foot or using the subway if it was too far. It was so interesting to walk around a city we didn’t know and that was different from what we had ever seen. Plus, the weather was freaking amazing, it was sunny every day and reaally warm!
Of course we had to visit the Sagrada Familia. We booked the visit online which meant to having to queue – whoop whoop, and saved us so much time. It was so beautiful, you could rent an audio guide as well, which we did, which was great as it gave explanations and pointed out details.
Obviously, we had to go the the beach, as it was so close. We didn’t go in the water of course, it was too cold but we walked around and enjoyed some Vitamine D.
We ate anywhere that was near us and not too expensive and of course, tried a real Paella.
It was so amazing to be able to relax and visit such an amazing city. I think it’s one of my favorite holidays.
I leave you with a few other pictures (from over 400…) and hope you enjoyed!
