First Impressions of Honest Beauty & Glossier | A Month Later

December 10, 2019

A month ago nearly to the day, I filmed a full face of first impressions of Honest Beauty and Glossier products for my Youtube channel (you can watch the video here). I had tested the boy brow and generation G lipstick in Leo from Glossier about a year ago but there are so many more things I wanted to try from them because, let’s face it, their marketing is good. Honest Beauty has always been a company I’ve been interested in. With Jessica Alba as one of the founders of the brand, it was bound to be quite noticeable in the ocean that is the beauty world. However, it was the fact that it is a clean brand that attracts me.

Over the past few years, I’ve been more and more aware of the bad ingredients we consume. Whether it’s in food, skincare, makeup, body care, cleaning products… everything has a few ingredients we don’t know the meaning of or what they do. So having the Honest Company creating products you can trust for your kids and family and then beauty products you don’t overthink about felt quite reassuring. So when I heard that Nocibé, a French beauty retailer carried the brand, I ran to their website (not every store has them).

If you’ve watched the video you’ll know that it was love at first try, but I still wanted to play around with some products to see how best they could perform and experimenting with textures and tools.

The Honest Beauty cream foundation in Shell

I was a bit scared when I first opened the packaging because I thought it was too light. However, as it’s winter, it’s actually the perfect match for my skin. I don’t even have to apply it all over my face to make sure everything looks great, I can cover only certain areas without looking like a clown which is so great. I’ve been trying t go for more natural looks, especially for base products to let my skin breathe better.

Now, the texture. It’s definitely a thicker cream foundation to the touch. However, not at all on the face. It feels very seamless and light on the face, and once it’s blended with the natural oils of my face, I can barely see it. The coverage is medium I would say – way better than I thought it would be – and lasts very well throughout the day. I prefer to use a brush to blend it rather than fingers if I’m applying it all over the face. Since it’s a thicker formula, it’s harder and longer to apply with my fingers.

Another very important result for me, is that I’ve noticed that I no longer get the tiny bumps/pimples I used to get at the end of the day on my cheeks and temples. I think it was due to the “bad” ingredients, clogging my pores and my skin freaking out. But that’s in the past now. My skin loves this and doesn’t react to it which has been such a relief – and why I wanted to try using clean beauty products.

The Honest Beauty cream blush in Plum berry

I was very excited about trying out this product. Ever I’d seen and even the video Tati filmed with Jessica Alba were all raving about this blush, saying it was their favorite cream blush. I was a bit frightened by the shade at first, which looks very dark in the pan, but upon the first try I loved it. I love the texture; thick but super bendable, I love the shade which is perfect for fall/winter; I love how buildable it is and I’m very glad to say that it’s last incredibly well for a cream product. I use a stippling brush or my fingers and wishing seconds it looks seamless.  I can already tell you that I will try out more shades asap.

Glossier Haloscope stick highlighter in Quartz

As soon as I saw The Anna Edit put it on, I knew I had to try this product. And I wasn’t wrong: I am obsessed with it. It’s the most beautiful and natural, dew-y looking highlighter I have ever tried. It lasts the entire day, doesn’t set and always looks fresh. Even if I’m barely wearing makeup I’ll put this on. I adore it. I’ll easier apply it directly from the stick or warm it up before with my fingers but it looks amazing using both.

Glossier Boy Brow

As I said, I had tried this before and loved it and I was needing a new brow gel so I jumped on the occasion and that was such a good idea. It sets my brows in place, they don’t move around like they always do, I get a nice tint to them that means I don’t necessarily need to fill my brows in if I want to create a natural look. What a good product.

Glossier Play Color Slide eye pencil in Magic Carpet

I fell in love with this shade on their website, I fell in love with it when I saw the pencil in real life and I fell deeper in love once it was applied to my eyelids. The formula is super smooth and makes it super easy to apply, but it lasts all day, doesn’t smudge and looks gorgeous. You can smudge it if you want to create a lighter eye look (I have, it looks bomb) and you can make it perfect and it won’t budge. All I can say is I can’t wait to try more shades of this eye pencil.

Glossier Lash Slick mascara

I was pretty sceptic when it came to this mascara.I thought it’s just be a tint, wouldn’t do much and I’m pretty fussy when it comes to mascara. Basically, I wasn’t expecting much but a product for super natural, no-makeup makeup looks. Well, I haven’t worn any other mascara since November 13th so… yes, not even my Lancôme Monsieur Big. I know. It’s so flattering, it gives volume, length but still manages to looks natural – super on brand for Glossier. Your lashes but better. I love all the tiny spikes of the plastic wand that makes it super easy to separate and coat every lash. Highly recommend.

Honest Beauty Demi matte lip crayon in Guava

Again, I’m very fussy when it comes to anything touching my lips. I’ll only use Homéoplasmine as a lip balm, nothing else works for my dry af lips and for lipsticks, man ones my lips tolerate are hard to find. So I was very curious about this Demi matte formula. A matte look whilst still keeping moisture? Yep, send it my way! Even though I got the shade wrong (it’s too light for my quite pigmented lips) I actually like the formula. However, I haven’t used it on more than the center of my lips so I’m going to need to test out other shades (quickly please!) to give you a good report back.

Glossier Generation G lipstick in Jam

Again, I had tested their newest formula in Leo and love it, but I wanted to try a new shade and how it’d perform as sometimes different shades like berries and reds performs differently to nudes. Well let me tell you, this perfect berry shade that is Jam is definitely my jam! Again, haven’t worn anything else on my lips since. It’s the perfect shade for this time of year, it’s comfortable and lasts very well so that I don’t need to touch up every five seconds (which I hate) and it leaves the nicest stain on if you don’t want to touch up. The obsession is real.
