Growing Up & Life Lessons

The other day when I was talking with my mother about the “good ol’ days” (a.k.a. when my sister and I were little), she asked me if I would like to go back to being a child again if I could. I thought about that for a second and two answers came spontaneously.

The first one being “yes, for nap times everyday”.

The other one was more difficult to articulate. It’s this feeling of being content with where I’m at right now and realizing that I’ve experienced so many different things that I’ve taught me lessons and helped me become who I am today.

Growing up is hard. You have so much to learn about the world, yourself, people around you, creating relationships, school to attend, lessons to learn, exams to pass…

But when I take a step back and think about it, I realize that I’ve learnt so much. Here are a few things I can think about.

  • Don’t trust everyone you meet who’s nice to you, they might have another agenda.
  • To rise, you need to fall a few times. Yes it hurts and you will get bruised, but they will remind you of how hard you’ve worked to get there.
  • If it’s worth having, it’s worth working hard for
  • The good people you meet will leave their mark on you forever
  • The people who support you and care for you are not to be forgotten
  • Trust your guts, they know what’s happening
  • You can do anything as long as you believe in yourself
  • Don’t be too nice and forgive people who have done you wrong over and over in the past. They don’t deserve you.
  • Express yourself, talk it out, it helps
  • Don’t try to be someone you’re not. You are amazing just the way you are (heyy Bruno Mars). Your own inner and outer beauty is unique. Unless you have an identical twin and then winner for us we get one more amazing person on this planet.
  • If something scares you, try to figure out why and deal with it.
  • The things that set your soul on fire matter, it doesn’t matter what other people think.

What have you learned growing up?

I love this post and agree with everything you said – it’s nice to look back on what you’ve learnt because it shows how you’ve grown as a person. I’m a very different person now compared to this time last year, and I’m happy about it 🙂
