It’s a natural feeling in life to want to succeed. Success has a different definition for everyone I think. For me, being successful means being happy in what I do, the relationship I’m in, the life I’m leading and content with the person I am.
I have to say that I am quite satisfied in my relationship. My boyfriend and I have been together for very nearly 8 years and if you put aside the occasional arguments and very hormonal complaints, we are quite happy.
I am now, at the age of nearly 24, at a stage in my life where I am evaluating a lot. I’m at a crossroad, needing to decide which job I want to take, appraising my friendships and defining what matters for me.
I’ve always felt like I need to be amazing at everything and truth is, I’m not and I can’t be. Why? Because it’s just impossible. And though it has been hard to accept, I am now okay with that. A few bumps in the road make the ride up all so worthwhile. But it also means that I’m not going to be satisfied and happy all the time. And that’s fine.
The only thing that bothers me at the moment is that I want to do a job that I truly love. I’m realizing that doing something I’m not 100% loving will be very hard for me in the long term. The thing is, what I know I love doing will take time – if it ever works. But for it to work, I need to keep pushing to get there. Here’s what helping me to work hard to reach my goal.
Just do your best
I’ve decided that as for everything in my life, what matters is that I do my best. If it doesn’t work out, at least I will know that I’ve done everything I could. But that means…
…Getting Out of my Comfort Zone
I’ve always had a hard time doing things that scare me or make me feel uncomfortable. I realized how important it was when I saw a vlog from Zoella and she quoted the Greatest Showan: “Comfort is the enemy of Success”. It’s so true. And I’ve been doing things out of my comfort zone for the past couple weeks like having my photos taken for Instagram and putting myself out there more and I’m already seeing a difference.
Stop Comparing Myself and Enjoying Things
In the world we live in, it has become so hard to not compare ourselves or our successes with others. I often found myself doing so, comparing numbers of followers, quality of photos, and content of blogposts… In the end, it never does anything good and I’d rather support and be happy for a fellow online content creator than feeling sorry for myself. I prefer to enjoy what I’m doing and let things unfold at their pace.
Don’t Stop Until You’re Proud, Success is a Rollercoaster
This first quote is a Monday motivation insta story from Hello October. She is such a girlboss and this phrase is so true. If you don’t feel proud of something, then it’s not the end. It takes time, effort and obstacles to get where you want to be. I try to recognize the lows as just steps to get where I want to go. It just makes the highs so much better.
What is your definition of success?
