I’m not one to splurge on makeup. I’m a student and I currently can’t really shop as much as I would like – unfortunately. Thankfully in a couple months I will be doing a paid internship and you can bet I’m gonna treat myself a bit more. Though I am someone who spends her money wisely, I think it’s important to know when to splurge a little bit and treat yourself. And that’s what happened a few weeks ago.
I had received money for Christmas and good girl that I am – lol – I was waiting to spend it on some things I really wanted. And because we are blessed (or cursed, depending on if it’s from our point of view or our bank account’s) with beauty bloggers and vloggers, I quickly decided what to go for. I wanted products I was quite sure would work for me as I didn’t want to waste money so I made my research before choosing which products to go for.
As my Kiko Fusion Bronzer is currently on its last stretch, I decided to choose a bronzer. I love bronzers and before falling in love with the NYX Sweet Cheeks blush palette (see review and swatches here), I would only wear bronzer on my cheeks, and often as a crease shade as well on my lids, so I wanted to make sure it would be a good one. It didn’t take me long to decide on the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. First of all, it smells incredible. Like, I want to eat it as soon as I open it.
Because I clearly have issues with finding shades that suit me (more on that later…), I wasn’t sure if I should get the lightest shade, Milk Chocolate, or the medium one, Chocolate Soleil so I asked the lady at the store to help me – pat on the back for overcoming my introvert self and overcoming anxiety for this – and she said to advised me to get the lightest one. It looks so good and natural on the skin. The color is perfect as it has enough warmth to make the face look sun-kissed, and enough cool tones to sculpt the face. I’m obsessed.
Lately I’ve been liking the look of a light-medium coverage foundation and just putting some concealer where I need a bit more coverage. The thing was, I didn’t have a great concealer for my face so I decided to pick one up at Sephora. I had heard so many great things about the Nars soft matte concealer by The Anna Edit and Allana Davison and I loved how it looked on their skin so I decided to go for it.
The thing is, I’m not really great at picking shades, like 80% of the time, I’ll choose the wrong shade for me. I get quite anxious in stores and I don’t like asking for help either. Other factors ended up with me choosing the shade Vanilla, when it’s the second shade and I’m clearly darker than that. I felt so stupid when I realized that at home, but thank goodness, it looks amazing under the eyes and to conceal and highlight the t-zone. It never creases, looks super natural and I’ve noticed that it often ends up sort of adapting more to the color of my skin. It’s super long lasting as well as being high coverage. Because I felt so bad choosing the wrong color, I tried using the concealer under foundation to cover marks and blemish scars and then foundation adds a lighter coverage foundation on top which makes my face look corrected, more natural looking and the right shade for me. Bingo.
I will definitely get the right shade for me later on as I think it would be nice to only wear concealer and something like a tinted moisturizer or a light coverage foundation for spring and summer so it looks fresher and natural. I also am dying to try the new Nars foundation Natural Radiant Long-wear foundation and the new Urban Decay Petite Heat eyeshadow palette.
