The 15 Amazing Uses of Coconut Oil

Hello guys!

For more than a year now, I have been using coconut oil on a pretty much everyday basis. It has so many wonderful properties and can be used in so many different ways that it makes this product even more interesting.

Something very important when choosing your coconut oil is to choose a raw, organic and virgin coconut oil in order to get the best properties. I chose mine out of Amazon from the brand Coconut Merchant because it was organic as well as being virgin-cold pressed and having no preservatives.

I am really interested in all things natural. I love that we can use natural products for so many uses and that it can help your body. After doing a bit of research, here are some ways to use coconut oil that I found very interesting.

  1. As a moisturizer. Whether it’s your face, your body, your lips or your feet, coconut oil is a very hydrating product that helps to soften your skin and has a lasting effect on the skin thanks to its Vitamin E properties. Coconut oil also retains the moisture content of the skin as the fats eliminate moisture loss through the pores on the skin. If you ingest coconut oil regularly, the fats will help to keep your skin healthy and smooth, to give it a even tone and reduce he appearance of pores.
  2. As a makeup remover as it solubilizes or breaks up water-resistant substances used in eye shadow and mascara, releasing them from the skin and lashes.
  3. It helps with skin disorders like eczema, acne and psoriasis.
  4. As a hair mask, coconut oil helps to hydrate and soften your hair, as well as repairing it from damages like heat and hair coloring.
  5. Coconut oil acts as a natural sunscreen, it blocks about 20% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
  6. Used as a mouthwash, it can kill bacteria in the mouth, improve dental health and reduce bad breath.
  7. Coconut oil, like coconuts, is rich in many proteins which help to keep skin healthy, rejuvenated both internally and externally. It helps with cellular health and tissue repair.
  8. It’s a strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties. Thanks to its three fatty acids, capris acid, caprylic acid and lauric acid. Applied on the skin or ingested, it protects from microbial infections that can get into open wounds or pores.
  9. Eating coconut oil before a workout can act as a major boost of energy levels.
  10. Coconut oil helps you to burn more fat, especially abdominal fat.
  11. It helps to reduce your hunger and to eat less, thanks to the fatty acids I mentioned.
  12. Arthritis: research suggests that antioxidants called polyphenols that can be found in coconut oil may be able to relieve some symptoms of arthritis. It can be massaged into the skin and ingested.
  13. It is beneficial for the heart.  It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps to prevent various heart problems like high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
  14. Coconut oil strengthens the immunity system.
  15. Cooked as cooking oil, to helps with digestion.

I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a lot of properties for one product. Research has shown that countries that consume a lot of coconuts and coconut oils are in better health than those who don’t, so I guess why not give it a try?

I mostly use it as a face moisturizer, a feet moisturizer, as a hair mask and for baking. I just scoop some into my hands and with the heat of the body, it dissolves into an oil.

I am going to try to use it more an differently as I want to try some of these properties and I guess something natural cannot hurt.

Do you use coconut oil? What for? Do you feel like it changes something?
